Ding Dong Ding Dong….
Im back to earth! Here are some updates on my Thailand Trip.
First of all, I would like to say that
This time I went to her islands, Koh Tao and Koh Samui. You probably would have heard about Koh Samui and not so much of Koh Tao but I tell you, Ray and myself are probably the only Chinese on the island. Not to mention we were mistaken as Thais. I had 3 occasions where they spoke to me in Thai and to realize how come I gave a blank look not knowing how to response. Only till then, they knew I wasn’t part of them. Anyway, they are really really very nice and warm people. No doubt that Ray and myself were mistaken cuz we were juz so generous with our smiles.. hurhurhur…
AT KOH TAO
After the “long” journey to Koh Tao, we finally reached the island at 1530. We started the journey at 0430 lor…! The reason for the “long” journey was because most of the time I kinda fell asleep as soon as I got to sit down. On the plane, on the ferry..that’s it, I was in dreamland…. Guess the 2 weeks of insomnia caught up with me. I was desperately trying to recup for the loss sleep I experience.
ROL had his theory lesson right on the same day of our arrival. I had to luxury of taking it slow and steady. I ordered lunch to be sent to his classroom and there I accompanied him while he watches the video. The lesson ended earlier than expected, we went to explore the island in the evening.
Koh Tao is a diving island. It has nothing except tons of R&R. Night life is zilch over there except for some chill out bars by the beach. The roads were practically deserted and no one would really travel on it. We settled for a quaint Thai rest along the main road. Concluded that the Tom Yam Soup served in
Woke up next morning, ROL had to rush through his unfinished assignments. As for me, I hanged out by the beach and the pool to soak up some sun. Took a dip in the cool waters and tried snorkeling. However, it is really incomparable to diving. ROL is really amazing, what meant to be a full day academic (indoor) lesson was over within half a day. He managed to ace in his exam and was allowed to pass with flying colours. We then decided to explore their villages. Guess what was our mode of transportation. Motorcycle!
ROL and myself have totally no experience in riding but we decided to go ahead with it. Since ROL is the man, he took liberty to be the rider and myself to be the pillion. Riding without license and safety helmet, our parents better not see these photos or else….. However, for the sake of my dear friends, here you go….
Ok, I injured myself while giving a go at riding. Tssk, I really cannot make it lor, I will stick to driving and diving. We rented the bike for SGD10 and it was for 24hours. However, we returned it later in the evening.
It was ROL’s confined pool the next day, again, I was lazing around the poolside with my little book which I only completed a few pages. I dozed off once again. It was just too conducive. Breezy, light waves, splashes of water, a comfortable sunchair under the beach umbrella, how could I resist that?
Yippie, we were finally going for the dives in the afternoon. ROL is really lucky, he was the only student in the class thus he got private instructor. Used to remember I had 8 students in my class. I had a refresher on my first dive because I have not been diving for almost one year. Koh Tao is no doubt a diving paradise. It was absolutely excellent for diving. I clocked in 4 dives across 2 days, took it slow and steady as I do not want to tire myself out.
Apart from all the ups of the trip, I had some downs too. Other than the injury I had from riding, I developed a rash, similar to the rash which I got when I was in States. I try not to let it affect me too much. Other then that, I had a slight inflammation on my right ear which caused me some problems during diving. However, I visited the local clinic and got some medication and the total cost was only SGD5. The medication worked well and I was able to equalize during my descend.
Food wise, the most popular would of cuz be the authentic Thai Food. Next to it would be Italian and Western. Pretty normal and guess it was to accommodate to the majority of the crowd if they can’t eat Thai food. I would like to highlight on something I tried over there. FLAMING BANANA! It is a dessert banana served in honey and orange sauce. Before serving, it is topped with flamed alcohol which was later poured onto the banana. Sweet bitter that tinkles your taste buds. Heavenly
AT KOH SAMUI
Life is much more lively on Koh Samui. We checked in this lovely villa. It has only 8 villas on its compound. The staff were extremely friendly. We were greeted with bright pearlies plus a glass of lychee martini. The villa is more of modern contemporary. Using white as its main colour, simple yet elegant.
I love Villa Nalinnada! Own private Jacuzzi, breakfast in room overlooking the ocean. We were like VIPS! Experiencing fine dining at their restaurant, poolside dinner and not to mention…SPA..! yes…SPA…. On the first day, I enjoyed a 90min Aromatherapy massage at about SGD50 whereas ROL had a Swedish. On the second day, ROL pampered ourselves with a SPA Package of 3hours (comprising of a body polish, a massage and a facial) at less then SGD150.00. It was soooo relaxing that we both K.Oed during the process especially in the 2nd SPA package.
Now that im back from heaven to earth, life still goes on. Im glad that this trip eased my tension and stress. If there is an opportunity, I would visit these islands again.
